Schlitz
Playhouse – 14disc/56eps (TVPgm)
For eight seasons this dramatic anthology series was sponsored by Joseph Schlitz Brewing Company. At first, the series was an hour long and performed from New York City. Midway during the first season (4/4/1952), the length was reduced to a half hour. Following the pattern of practically all early TV, "Schlitz" was performed live but converted to filmed episodes beginning with "A Quarter for Your Troubles" during Season 1 on 5/30/52. This episode also corresponded with a move to Hollywood and Irene Dunne being installed as host. Dunn would open each episode with a brief sketch that tied into that evening's story. Her tenure as host was short-lived; she was gone by the end of November as the introductions were regarded as embarrassing for a star of her stature. After that, the star of that week's story would provide a brief introduction.

Masquerade
Masquerade was a stylish international action series from producer Glen A. Larson. Rod Taylor starred as Lavender, a veteran spy who was weary of seeing his comrades die at the hands of the enemy. The problem, he concluded, was that by the time a spy was recruited, trained, and ready to go… More into the field, the enemy had identified and targeted them for assassination. Lavender's idea was to begin recruiting everday Americans with special skills to become temporary spies who could participate in one mission then return quietly to their normal lives. Once assembled, they would travel together as a group of tourists visiting a foreign country -- sight-seeing by day and collaborating on their mission by night. When the mission was completed, they would each receive pay equivalent to a year's salary (no taxes) and go their separate ways. While Lavender oversaw the missions, his assistants Danny and Casey kept careful tabs on the recruits, offering advice and encouragement when needed. 3 discs. Complete.
